Ruben Salazar Stamp

MDPI led an effort to request the U.S. Postal Service Selection Committee consider naming a stamp after Ruben Salazar. Salazar, a popular Los Angeles Times editor and columnist in the 1960s, had been shot down after covering a story on an anti-war rally that had become violent. Although well known in southern California, national recognition will add interest to his importance in American history. MDPI was able to collect thousands of signatures and resolutions from national organizations including the U.S. Hispanic Legislative Caucus, the National Council de la Raza, and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. MDPI also consulted on a PBS film on Salazar that was under development in Los Angeles and a student film at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

"We are very proud of his career in journalism, which is so well known to people of the southwest. Now, with a U.S. Postal Stamp there can be national awareness of this great man and his profound reporting of the Mexican American community."
