Professor Emeritus of Journalism Donald W. Carson is a former head of and a professor emeritus from the University of Arizona Department of Journalism. He worked fulltime as a newsman for The Associated Press in Phoenix and Washington, D.C., and for the Arizona Daily Star. After becoming a professor, he worked summers for the AP in New York City, Denver and Miami and for the Los Angeles Times, San Diego Union, Charlotte Observer and the Arizona Daily Star. He also worked a number of summers in the Editing Program for Minority Journalists, which he helped found, and the Summer Program for Minority Journalists. He is a member of the Arizona Newspapers Hall of Fame, which lauded him for> his efforts at newsroom diversity. He was honored separately for that work by the National Conference of Editorial Writers, the Institute for Journalism Education, the California Chicano News Media Association and the Hispanic Professional Action Committee of Tucson.
